TC Police Captain Morgan Retires, Others Promoted

Dec. 20, 2012

Captain Steve Morgan retired last week from the Traverse City Police Department after 25 1/2 years of service, but he isn't hanging up his badge just yet. Effective Jan. 1, he will be the new undersheriff for the Leelanau County Sheriff's Department. Incoming Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Borkovich announced during his campaign earlier this year that if elected he would hire Morgan to fill the post.

Taking over for Capt. Morgan is Sgt. Mike Ayling, who assumes command of Investigative Services. Sgt. Jim Bussel is now administrative sergeant and head of the TCPD Reserve along with other duties. At the end of the month, Detective Keith Gillis will be promoted to sergeant and assigned to one of four patrol teams.
