Bar Brawls Keep TCPD Busy

Traverse City Police Department officers had a busy weekend responding to several local bar brawls.

Officers were called to Bootleggers early Saturday at 1:21am in response to an argument. As they attempted to sort things out, a fight spilled out of Union Street Station next door, where two men allegedly snorted rails of cocaine from a table and slugged employees after they were asked to leave. A 35-year-old Gowen, Mich. resident was arrested for assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. A 38-year-old Greenville, Mich. man faces the same charges and a parole violation for drinking – he clocked in a .390 PBT. TCPD Interim Chief Jeff O’Brien says officers did not find any cocaine.

Officers were then called at 9:12pm Saturday evening to the Sail Inn, where witnesses said as many as 10 people were brawling in the parking lot. Suspects scattered before police arrived. Although one man said someone who claimed to have a gun threatened him, no one saw a weapon.

In the next case, police were called to the West Bay Beach Holiday Inn Resort at 1:09am Sunday morning, where they found a 30-year-old Traverse City man who had suffered cuts and bruises to his head. Although officers tracked down three suspects who were under a nearby bridge, the victim was uncooperative and no was arrested in the incident.
