Bill Smith Joins TCAPS Board As Interim Member

At a special meeting session Monday evening, the Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Bill Smith as an interim replacement for Trustee Kelly Clark. Clark, whose term on the board was set to expire this December, resigned from his post earlier this month.
 
Smith had previously applied to serve as an interim board member in the stead of Trustee Jan Geht, who resigned earlier this summer. The board opted instead to appoint Matt Anderson, in part because he planned to run for a full term in the fall election. Smith, a children’s book author who has previously served as principal for Eastern Elementary, had declined to run for a full term. This time, though, Board President Erik Falconer said the board wanted a short-term candidate. Smith fit the bill.
 
Following the approval vote, Smith took an official oath of office and joined the Board of Education at the table. His interim status is effective through December 1 of this year.
