Cherryland Electric Awards $23,500 to Area Nonprofits

Cherryland Cares awarded a total of $23,500 to five northwest Michigan area non-profit organizations last quarter.

Benzie Senior Resources plans to use the funds toward the purchase of a replacement vehicle for their Meals on Wheels program. North Ed Foundation received funding for their student emergency relief fund. Redeemer of Interlochen Food Pantry will use funding for food, supplies, and equipment for the food pantry. The Baby Pantry at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church was awarded funding for clothing, shoes, and formula for the baby pantry. TART Trails, Inc. received funding for lights, locks, and repairs for the Recycle-A-Bicycle program.

Since the beginning of 2024, the Cherryland Cares program has awarded $61,730 in grant funding to region non-profits. The program began in 2006 and has since given a total of $815,876.60 in grant funding to programs that support our local community.

Cherryland Cares is a charitable fund overseen by a group of five volunteer Cherryland Electric Cooperative members who review grant applications and allocate money to non-profit organizations seeking assistance. Cherryland Cares is funded by members electing to round up their monthly electric bill to the nearest dollar.
