Film Fest Announces "TCFF Tuesdays" Series

The Traverse City Film Festival has announced the launch of a new film series called TCFF Tuesdays that will feature weekly screenings of independent and art house movies.

TCFF Tuesdays will run for three seasons annually: fall (October-December), winter (January-April), and summer (May-July). In the other months, TCFF will host encore presentations of the most popular TCFF Tuesdays films and return visits of past audience favorites from TCFF festivals.

The first season will kick off October 3 with How to Blow Up a Pipeline and run weekly through December 19. The fall lineup includes documentaries, foreign films, American indie films, and a 4K restoration screening of Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Tickets are $10 for individual films ($6 for students) or $59 for a season pass ($48 for students).

The new series comes a few months after TCFF Founder Michael Moore announced TCFF was ending its annual summer festival after a nearly two-decade run. In an email Thursday, Moore wrote: "The other day I asked myself this existential question: 'Would you rather watch 52 movies crammed into 5 days — or 52 movies over a relaxing 52 weeks in the comfort of a 105-year-old movie palace?' It was not a hard question to answer. Of course, I don’t want to watch a group of great movies like a hamster on a treadmill. Who wouldn’t want to experience a film festival in a way where you can savor every movie and then carry it with you for days or weeks to come?" 

Moore said the pandemic gave TCFF "time to rethink, regroup, pay off all debts, and create a new way to have a festival where no one would be turned away or forced to watch dozens of movies with no sleep, little food, and zero parking...we are announcing a new and exciting way forward. A plan to bring the best films and filmmakers from around the world — like we always have — but instead of doing it for just a few days each summer, we will now do it on the same day of the week, every single week, all year long."
