Here's NMC's Plan For The Fall

Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) has announced its plans for the fall semester, outlining a mix of face-to-face and online instructional strategies that are designed to meet the specific needs of different programs and students.

In a small number of programs, NMC will be required to operate face-to-face courses in the fall. Some programs, such as the college’s dental assistant program and police academy, accreditation regulations demand face-to-face instruction specifically. In additional, several NMC occupational programs, including the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, require in-person learning for parts of the degree path – though NMC is looking for aspects of these programs that can be delivered remotely.

Wherever possible, NMC is looking to deliver learning digitally and at a distance. In the area of general education courses, for instance, NMC has designed three formats in which instruction may be delivered:

 - Hybrid courses, which combine face-to-face courses with online learning. No gen ed courses require face-to-face instruction for all coursework, but some do demand in-person learning for certain activities. Other coursework will be completed digitally.

 - Livestream classes, which will be delivered live at scheduled times. All students and instructors will attend virtually on a synchronous basis.

 - All-online courses, where students complete 100 percent of their coursework remotely and have the flexibility to work through the classes on their own schedules.

NMC is working to update its fall schedule and course selection to reflect the new return-to-school plan. Students will be able to access the updated course catalog and register for fall 2020 classes beginning on Monday, June 22.
