More Than $5 Million Wagered On Sports Via Grand Traverse Band In February

More than $5.55 million was wagered on sports online via the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians during the month of February -- its first full month in operation online -- according information from the Michigan Gaming Control Board. Online sports gambling became legal in Michigan earlier this year. Like many other casinos in the state, the Grand Traverse Band began its online gaming operations on January 22 with its partner, William Hill US, an international gaming company. 

The Grand Traverse Band made $449,316 in gross receipts from that amount wagered in February, and adjusted gross receipts of $16,651 for the month after promotions and other costs. 

Tribal gaming operators in Michigan pay an 8.4 percent tax to the state based on adjusted gross sports betting receipts, meaning The Grand Traverse Band made a $1,398.71 payment to the State of Michigan for February. They were the only operator in Michigan to make payments to the state in both January and February because they were the only operator to show positive receipts both months.
