Six Riesling wines from the Traverse Wine Coast were cited as “Highly Recommended” in Decanter magazine, scoring over 90 on a 100-point scale. A reviewer from the magazine visited Michigan last year to rank the Rieslings of the state, and the following wines all scored 90 or above:
· Whole Cluster Riesling 2021, Chateau Grand Traverse, 93
· Arcturos Dry Riesling 2021, Black Star Farms, 92
· Dry Riesling 2021, Verterra Winery, 92
· Select Harvest Riesling 2021, Rove Estate, 92
· Riesling Reserve 2021, Brys Estate, 91
· Reserve Riesling 2020, Shady Lane Cellars, 91
They were among ten wines from Michigan to be recognized. The others were from the Lake Michigan Shore AVA in the southwest part of the state.
Decanter writer Brianne Cohen noted that the Rieslings from Michigan are affordable and approachable “The Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsula wine trails both provide optimal expressions of winemaking,” she said in the article.
