"Protein For The People" To Help Food Rescue, Food Pantries

Protein For The People, a new partnership between Red Ginger, Burritt’s Fresh Markets and Superior Foods, will provide Goodwill Northern Michigan’s Food Rescue with protein for area food pantries during the COVID-19 crisis.

Every time someone purchases a gift card from Red Ginger or Burritt’s, 20 percent of the gift card purchase will go toward the purchase of chicken and ground beef for those in need. Superior Foods will deliver the protein to Food Rescue for distribution to food pantries around northern Michigan.

"A person without nutritious food is like a car with a flat tire," said Becky Mang and Homer Nye, who co-founded Food Rescue of Northwest Michigan with Bruce Byl and George Powell. "Protein is an important building block for our children. We are thankful for everyone who helps Food Rescue deliver good food to our communities."

Food Rescue, a Goodwill of Northern Michigan program, collects soon-to-expire, fresh, healthy food and distributes it to 48 food pantries, shelters, and community meal sites same day, free of charge.
