Snowmobile Race Planned for Acme Jan 27-28
The Midwest International Racing Association (MIRA) announced that the Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel 250 snowmobile race will take place at the Grand Traverse Town Center in Acme on January 27-28.
The Saturday sprint races will offer 5-7 high-intensity laps, according to MIRA, while a longer enduro race will take place Sunday as a NASCAR-style race with pit stops and crews, electronic scoring, and a pace sled.
"Last year's warmer weather conditions held off this major event, but we were able to use the time to level the Grand Traverse Town Center fields next to Meijer and construct a smooth racing oval that will be ideal for high speed racing," said MIRA President Karl Schwartz. "The forecast looks great for colder temperatures to allow for more frost to be packed into the ground and more ice to be built on the race track."
Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos CEO Rich Bailey said the company is "happy to partner with MIRA Racing for this exciting winter event that has the potential to bring thousands of racers and spectators to our area, and offer our residents a great snowmobile race for the first time in our area."
