Tom's Food Market Closing Acme Location

Tom's Food Market will be closing its Acme store, the company announced in a press release Tuesday.

President Christy Kuhnke said it "is no longer economically feasible to maintain operations" at the store located at 6353 US-31. Tom's has operated since 1983 at the site, but has faced recent market pressures, including the opening of a new Meijer store nearby on M-72 and the closure of adjacent anchor Kmart.

"We are pleased to reposition all our Acme associates within our other markets," Kuhnke said in the release. Tom's will still operate its three other Traverse City locations (Fourteenth, East Bay, and West Bay) in addition to its Northport and Interlochen stores. The company did not specify a closing date for the Acme store.
