Two Coronavirus Cases Confirmed In Traverse City, Gaylord
Two patients tested and treated at Munson Healthcare facilities have confirmed cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services informed Munson Healthcare Monday night.
One patient was screened and tested at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City and the other at Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord. The Traverse City patient was an adult male from Leelanau County who was exposed to the disease out of state and has been admitted to Munson hospital. The Gaylord patient was an adult male from Otsego County who was likely exposed to the virus through international travel. He is isolated and recuperating at a residence. The health departments in both jurisdictions are working with the patients to identify and contact anyone else who was potentially exposed.
“The safety of our patients, staff and community is our top priority,” Munson said in a statement. “With these cases now confirmed, Munson Healthcare Employee Health is actively notifying all staff who were involved in the care of these two patients and following up accordingly. Employee Health and each county’s local health department are monitoring these patients now, who both exhibited mild symptoms, and determining patient contact in an effort to reduce possible spread.”
Munson Healthcare is collaborating with state and local health departments, and is “closely monitoring developments and will continue to provide healthcare guidance and updates as appropriate.”
