Crandall Suspends House Campaign To Attend Yale

June 16, 2016

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) Board Vice President and Michigan House of Representatives candidate Megan Crandall is suspending her political campaign to attend Yale College this fall on a full scholarship.

Crandall announced Wednesday that she was leaving the race after learning of her acceptance to Yale as an Eli Whitney Scholar. “At the time of application, if admitted I had planned to defer enrollment until after the general election in November," Crandall said in a written statement. "But with careful consideration and much reflection since receiving the news, I have decided to suspend my campaign for the 104th district seat and begin my studies at Yale with my cohorts in September. Yale has generously extended a full scholarship, and I simply cannot pass up this opportunity."

Crandall's TCAPS board term expires in December. Crandall said she plans to fulfill her board responsibilities for the last remaining months "through electronic means and (traveling) home for meetings when possible."

The candidate has refunded her campaign contributions, according to the release. "I will continue to participate in community discussions to help shape conversation and draw attention to fiscally and environmentally responsible policies and other issues important to our region," Crandall said.
