Traverse City-based author and National Writers Series co-founder Doug Stanton has been named a 2018 Michiganian of the Year by The Detroit News.
Stanton was named to this year's list for his "writing success and role in making Traverse City the literary center of northern Michigan," according to the publication. The author, screenwriter, producer, and National Writer Series co-founder of the National Writers Series has three children and lives with his wife, Anne Stanton, in Traverse City.
Every year since 1978, readers of The Detroit News "have participated in nominating our Michiganians of the Year, a selection of outstanding citizens who have helped make living in this state a richer experience for the rest of us, either by their good works or by the example they set," the publication states. This year's complete list of honorees includes Stanton, Remonia Chapman, Rachael Denhollander, Mike Duggan, Aretha Franklin (Lifetime Achievement Award), Cindy Garcia, Bryant George, Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr., Daniel Little, Candice Miller, and John Rakolta Jr.
