Driver Facing Charges After Crashing Into Schwan's Truck
July 15, 2016
A 22-year-old Suttons Bay man is facing multiple criminal charges after ploughing into a Schwan's delivery truck Wednesday.
The Schwan's truck was backing into a private driveway off Center Highway just south of Shady Lane in Bingham Township shortly before 1:30pm. The truck was half-way into the driveway when a northbound Chevrolet smashed into the truck's side. A witness said the Chevrolet was traveling well above the posted speed limit and swerved right, hitting the truck.
The Chevrolet's driver had a suspended driver's license for failing to pay for a previous citation. He had no insurance on his vehicle and expired registration plates. A warrant was forwarded to the prosecuting attorney's office requesting criminal charges be filed for the offenses. The man was also cited for failing to stop in an assured clear distance.
The driver of the Schwan's truck, a 30-year-old Traverse City woman, suffered a minor injury to her hand in the accident.
