Finalists Named For New NMC President

Aug. 1, 2019

Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) has announced the names of eight candidates who will vie to become the college’s next president. NMC’s presidential search committee will conduct those interviews via video chat on August 5 and 6 at the NMC University Center. After the interviews, the search committee will narrow down the applicant pool to three to five finalists who will be invited to NMC for in-person interviews with the college’s Board of Trustees.

The eight candidates for the NMC presidential role are as follows:

·      Marcia Conston
·      James Conwell
·      Marsha Danielson
·      Allen Goben
·      Tim Meyer
·      Nick Nissley
·      Thomas Watkins
·      Christy Weber

In total, NMC received 67 applications for the job. The college partnered with The Pauly Group, an academic administration search consulting firm, to review the candidates and narrow down the applicant pool. In early July, the Pauly Group culled the list to 20 candidates, which the NMC search committee then used to select its top eight.

The video interviews for all eight candidates will be open to the public. The interviews will last all day on August 5 and 6 (7:30am to 5pm) and will be held in rooms 215 and 217 of the University Center, located at 2200 Dendrinos Drive. The dates for the in-person interviews will be announced at a later date, but will take place sometime in mid-to-late August. NMC plans for its Board of Trustees to appoint a new president in September, with the goal of that person officially taking over the position as of January 1, 2020.

NMC’s new president will succeed the college’s current leader Tim Nelson, who announced his retirement last fall.
