Grand Traverse Resort Rehires Tim Norman As General Manager
By Craig Manning | Aug. 16, 2023
An old face is returning to the fold of northern Michigan tourism. Grand Traverse Resort and Spa announced on Tuesday that Tim Norman, one of the property’s former general managers, has returned to the GM role effective this week. Norman succeeds former Resort leader Matthew Bryant, who was terminated from the job in late June for reasons the Resort has not disclosed. Incidentally, Bryant was Norman’s successor, taking the GM position in May of 2019 after Norman left the role the previous October.
Norman’s first stint as Resort GM ran from 2012 to 2018, after which he left the job to take a position as general manager of the Westin La Paloma in Tucson, Arizona. Per a press release sent to local media on Tuesday, Norman’s career then diverged from hotels when he was recruited to build a new senior living resort in St. George, Utah. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Norman “managed the $90 million project from the ground up while also developing the brand, training staff, and investing in the community.”
Once the St. George senior living facility was up and running, Norman pivoted back to tourism, taking a job as GM of the Cherry Valley Hotel and Ohio Event Center in Newark, Ohio. He held that job for two years before making his way back to Traverse City. Norman officially started his second stint as Resort GM this past Monday, August 14.
“It is an honor to return to the Resort,” Norman said in the press release. “I am a champion for Pure Michigan, our ownership – the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians – the Resort, and the community of Traverse City. We are northern Michigan’s premier resort destination for meetings, golf, wellness, and making family memories. I look forward to continuing to strengthen our involvement in the community, customer service, and guest experiences.”
