High School Football Set With Radio Broadcasts

Aug. 14, 2021

Traverse City West Titan football is coming back to the radio waves this fall. Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) announced on Friday that it had entered into a new “exclusive partnership” with northern Michigan’s Blarney Stone Broadcasting, which will result in Traverse City West Senior High football games being broadcast in full on Blarney Stone’s Q100 WWMN station at 106.3 FM. Those broadcasts will end what TCAPS calls “a long hiatus” of Titan football from the airwaves.

Jason Carmien, Traverse City West’s athletic director and assistant principal, said the partnership was “a great opportunity to celebrate our student athletes, teams, and coaches.” Carmien added that he was looking forward to “expanding the Titan Athletics brand” thanks to the radio broadcasts.

TCAPS also confirmed that broadcasts of Traverse City Central High School games will continue this fall on WTCM’s NewsTalk 580 station at 580 AM. Joel Franck and Tim Brick, who have offered play-by-play commentary of Central games for years on WTCM, will both be back for the 2021 season.

Football and other fall athletics are now officially underway in Traverse City, with practices for high school sports allowed to begin statewide as of Monday, August 9.
