Homeless Awareness in TC

Nov. 16, 2013

Starting tomorrow, Sun., Nov. 17, and running through Nov. 23 is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. As a way to bring a local focus to this nationwide problem, a group of Grand Valley State University students at NMC's University Center in Traverse City has launched The Rooftop Difference.

This awareness campaign is based on the fact that those who are experiencing homelessness are not unlike anyone in the community – they have experienced some sort of personal crisis and are currently without a roof over their head. The goal is to lessen the stigma surrounding homelessness and, as a result, the negative effect that stigma can have on those experiencing it. Check out the class' Facebook page to learn more.
