Kingsley Woman Arrested for Embezzling

By Beth Milligan | Nov. 9, 2023

A 49-year-old Kingsley woman was arrested for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars from her employer, Two Men and a Truck.

According to the Michigan State Police, the owner of the Two Men and a Truck franchise in Traverse City contacted authorities in September to investigate an alleged embezzlement. The suspect, 49-year-old April Dawn Steele from Kingsley, had been working for the company since May. A customer came in during July and made a $7,000 cash deposit for services. The owner never received the money, according to the report.

Surveillance footage was reviewed, and Steele was developed as a suspect, according to the MSP. Interviews were conducted and bank records checked. A report was then turned over to the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office. An arrest warrant was authorized for Steele on October 31, and she was arrested by the MSP 7th District Fugitive Team on November 7. She was lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail.

Steele was arraigned in 86th District Court on one count of embezzlement over $999 but less than $20,000 and a habitual offender offense. She was given a $10,000 PR bond. Her next scheduled court appearance is on November 21 at 2pm.
