Local Middle School Robotics Team Qualifies For World Championships

By Craig Manning | March 19, 2025

A middle school robotics team from Traverse City is headed to the world championships.

Woodland School, a local public charter school, announced this week that its “Wings of Woodland” robotics team had taken a range of top honors at the Michigan VEX IQ Robotics Middle School State Championship, held in Monroe on Sunday, March 9. According to a press release, the team claimed the tournament’s top honor – the Excellence Award – and also won the Sportsmanship Award. The team also finished second in the Teamwork Challenge.

Thanks to the team’s strong performance, the Wings of Woodland are headed to the VEX IQ Middle School World Championship. They are one of just five middle school teams in the state advancing to that event, which will be held in Dallas, Texas in May. The team is now raising funds to pay for the trip.

Beyond the state championship performance, the Wings of Woodland team has racked up an impressive array of hardware throughout the 2024-25 season, including 11 trophies, one banner, and five Excellence Awards. The team is made up of just three members: Addison Bloye, Kendall Harvey, and Charley Bloye.

“We couldn’t be prouder of our team,” said Rich Watson, Woodland School director. “Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off, and we’re excited to cheer them on at the World Championships.”
