Menzel Submits Official Resignation Effective Dec. 31

Jan. 24, 2017

After previously telling county commissioners and The Ticker that 2017 would be his last year as Grand Traverse County Administrator, Tom Menzel submitted an official letter of resignation Monday effective December 31.

"The (county commission's) strategic planning session is scheduled for January 28 and knowing that there will be new administrative leadership in 2018 will be an important factor for the current board as they begin that process," Menzel wrote in the letter addressed to commissioners. "During the remainder of 2017, I will continue to lead the organization and work on the key issues. I will also be available and most willing to help the board in the recruiting and selection process (for a new county administrator) in any way that I can."

Menzel thanked commissioners for the "knowledge and experience" he has gained working for Grand Traverse County. Menzel previously told The Ticker he considered Deputy Administrator Jennifer DeHaan one internal candidate he believes could be a viable successor when he departs.
