Metiva To Become New Community Foundation CEO

March 11, 2025

The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation announced that Alison Metiva will become its next President & CEO effective January 1, 2026. Metiva will succeed David Mengebier, who will be stepping down from the position at the end of 2025.

“I am incredibly proud of how the Community Foundation has grown and evolved over the years,” David Mengebier, current President & CEO of the Community Foundation, said in a statement. “I know Alison will do an exceptional job of building upon the Foundation’s successes and ensure that the organization continues to be a trusted steward of resources for our communities.”

During her 19-year tenure with the Community Foundation, Metiva has served in a variety of roles with increasing responsibility, including managing the organization’s grantmaking and scholarship programs, communications and marketing, donor stewardship and development, human resources and budgeting. Most recently, Metiva has served for three years as the Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer, overseeing the organization’s day-to-day operations.

In addition to her duties at the Community Foundation, Metiva serves as Chair of the Board for Generations Ahead, on the Executive Team for the Great Start Collaborative Traverse Bay, on the Advisory Council for Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities, and on the Steering Committee for Central Lake Early Opportunities (CLEO), a network of partners supporting and providing early childhood experiences. Metiva grew up in Northern Michigan and is a graduate of Northwestern Michigan College and Western Michigan University.

The Community Foundation’s Board of Directors selected Metiva after an extensive and thorough due diligence process, adhering to the Foundation’s succession policy, which included establishing a Hiring Team of Board Directors; soliciting input from staff and community leaders; engaging the Foundation’s HR consultants, Yeo & Yeo; conducting an extensive interview with Metiva; comparing her qualifications and skill set to the CEO job description and the organization’s strategic goals; and informing the Board on an ongoing basis of its process and deliberations.

The Community Foundation Board’s Hiring Team voted unanimously to recommend Metiva for the position, which the Foundation’s Board also approved unanimously.
