No-Wake Zone For Silver Lake?

By Al Parker | Aug. 8, 2017

Responding to requests from Silver Lake homeowners, the Garfield Township Board will hold a public hearing tonight (Tuesday) to consider creating a “no-wake” zone near the Beacon Hills public boat launch.

Several months ago, a resident approached the township’s Parks and Recreation Commission about creating the no-wake zone. Support for the effort came from adjacent property owners and the Silver Lake Homeowners Association. If approved by the township board, the issue would go before the Department of Natural Resources, which would then investigate, prepare a report and hold its own public hearing. Within 90 days of that public hearing, if the DNR determines a need for a no-wake ordinance, it will notify Garfield Township. Within 60 days after receiving a “proposed special rule” ordinance from the DNR, the township would decide if it wants to adopt the same.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held at 6pm at the township hall on Veterans Drive.
