Pedestrian Island Under Construction On Garfield Avenue

By Beth Milligan | Sept. 15, 2021

The City of Traverse City and Elmer’s Crane and Dozer are constructing a new pedestrian refuge island on South Garfield Avenue near the Washington Street intersection.

Work on the project started Wednesday and is expected to be substantially complete by Friday. Northbound South Garfield Avenue traffic will be detoured at East Eighth Street to Fair Street, then west on US-31. Southbound South Garfield Avenue traffic will be maintained.

Drivers are advised to use caution in and around the work zones. Appropriate signage and barricades will be in place.
