Sara Bageris Appointed to TCAPS Board

By Beth Milligan | April 30, 2025

Sara Bageris was unanimously chosen by Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) trustees Monday to fill a vacancy on the board created by the recent resignation and sudden passing of Holly Bird. Bageris is a seasoned educator, having served 25 years at TCAPS and one year at Glen Lake.

“Filling this vacancy was an emotional process,” President Scott Newman-Bale said in a statement. “The decision was made even more difficult by a high quality candidate pool. To see our board unanimously support Sara for the vacancy indicates our mutual desires towards positive district outcomes.”

During her tenure with TCAPS, Bageris taught 13 years at Cherry Knoll, covering first, second, and third grades. She moved to Central Grade in 2012, teaching third grade until her retirement in 2024. Bageris is the parent of two TCAPS students, volunteers with the Central Neighborhood Association, and sits on the Board of Grand Traverse Ski Club.

Bageris will serve the rest of Bird's term through December 31, 2026.
