Student Group To Screen Film, Discuss Gun Violence

Feb. 5, 2025

Students from Traverse City West Senior High, Traverse City Central High and Interlochen, as part of a local Students Demand Action group, are hosting a screening of The Hate U Give at the State Theatre on Thursday, February 13.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with remarks from student organizers and representatives from Moms Demand Action at 6:30 p.m., followed by the film. Students from any school will be admitted for free and tickets for the public are $10 at the State's website.

The event aims to foster discussion among young people about the impact of gun violence, which is now the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. The Hate U Give, based on the bestselling novel by Angie Thomas, explores themes of systemic violence and the effect of gun violence on youth.
