Styx, Detroit Symphony Orchestra Slated For Interlochen Arts Festival Performances This Summer

By Craig Manning | March 6, 2023

Interlochen Center for the Arts has released its first batch of concert announcements for this summer’s Interlochen Arts Festival. Classic rock radio fixtures Styx will take the stage at Interlochen’s Kresge Auditorium on Wednesday, July 12, while the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will perform at Kresge on Saturday, July 22. Tickets for both shows go on sale this Friday, March 10.

Styx is a famed rock ‘n’ roll band known for iconic hits like “Come Sail Away,” “Renegade,” and “Mr. Roboto.” The band first formed in 1972 and celebrated their 50th anniversary last year. Known for their hybrid of progressive rock, soft rock, and pop rock genre elements, Styx have sold 54 million albums and charted 16 top 40 singles, eight of which reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The Styx concert is scheduled for 7:30pm on July 12, with tickets starting at $45.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is an institution that dates back to 1887. In addition to its classical music pursuits, the orchestra is unique for the role that many members played in the 1960s in contributing string accompaniments and other orchestrations to Motown recordings. This summer’s performance at Interlochen will highlight “the music of three beloved ballets,” including Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite, Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, and selections from Act III of Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth. DSO will take the stage at Kresge at 7:30pm on March 10, and ticket prices start at $52.
