By Beth Milligan | June 9, 2025

A Traverse City man died after falling off a dock in the Suttons Bay Marina late Saturday, according to the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Office deputies and Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the marina at 8:46am Sunday morning in response to a possible drowning after a body was seen in the water. Through the investigation, it was determined that 66 year-old Robert Charles Clark of Traverse City "had fallen off the dock in the harbor sometime after 11pm for unknown reasons," according to the Sheriff's Office.

"The incident was unwitnessed, and alcohol was involved," according to the Sheriff's Office. "The incident remains under investigation." Members of the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office Dive Team assisted in the investigation.
