TCAPS Names Zac Stevenson New TC Central Athletic Director

Sept. 22, 2018

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) announced on Friday that it had chosen Zac Stevenson as the new athletic director for Traverse City Central High School. Stevenson will also be a new assistant principal at the school.

Stevenson succeeds former TC Central athletic director Mark Mattson, who stepped down from the role in July. Mattson, who initially took the job in 2014, decided to return to his previous athletic director post at Glen Lake.

Stevenson comes to Traverse City from Battle Creek, where he has served as director of athletics for the Lakeview School District since 2016. His background spans 22 years of experience in both administration and teaching. He has a bachelor’s degree in physical education, a master’s degree in athletic administration, and Michigan certifications in K-12 administration and teaching. He is on the board of directors for the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) and is an active member of both the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) and the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).

Cody Inglis, another former athletic director for TC Central, praised Stevenson as “one of the top ADs in the state” and lauded his way of “working with students to develop character as well as athletic success.” Inglis, who left TCAPS in January 2014,  is now an assistant director for the MHSAA.
