West Senior High Goes Virtual Monday, COVID-19 Cases Found At Four TCAPS Schools

By Beth Milligan | Nov. 9, 2020

Traverse City West Senior High School will have a remote learning day Monday in order to allow contact tracing to take place for a coronavirus-related case at the school.

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) was informed over the weekend by the Grand Traverse County Health Department about positive school-associated cases at West Senior High, West Middle School, Central High School, and Eastern Elementary School. Contact tracing efforts have been completed in the cases related to Central High School and West Middle School. While West Senior High is on a remote learning day Monday, meals for students will be available for pick-up in the bus loop at Long Lake Elementary School from 7am to 8am.

The case investigation is also ongoing related to Eastern Elementary School. Two classrooms in the school will be learning remotely on Monday. Families in these classrooms have been notified directly and have been provided information on how to access learning materials and meals. All other classrooms at the school will continue face-to-face instruction. As an ongoing precaution, schools and buses continue to be deep cleaned and disinfected daily.

Students and staff members will be notified directly if they are identified as a close contact to a positive COVID-19 case and need to stay home and quarantine or take additional health measures. If a student or staff member is not contacted by the Health Department, it means that the student or staff member was not identified as a close contact of the person who tested positive.
