Tuesday marks the return of the popular Heritage Parade to the National Cherry Festival. Here are some other key events on deck today at the festival.
Tuesday, July 5
> Heritage Day: The Cherry Festival celebrates the heritage of the region with a Native American Pow Wow dance, dance displays, drumming and more from 9am to 4pm at the Bay Side Music Stage.
> Traverse City History In The Movies: Stop by the Bijou by the Bay from 9am-12pm to enjoy local history on the big screen.
> Kids Pet Show: The popular annual event take places from 10am to 12pm at F&M Park, with registration from 9am to 9:45am. Categories include Ugliest Mutt, Best Dressed Pet, Most Unusual Pet, Fat Cat, Pet & Owner Look Alike, and Best Dressed Ensemble.
> Crooked Tree Arts Center Activities: Ages 4-12 are invited to drop by the Crooked Tree Arts Center on Sixth Street for free cherry-themed arts and craft projects from 10am to 1pm.
> Cherry Pins & Pizza: Familes can enjoy pizza slices, pop, shoe rentals and games of bowling for $1 each at Lucky Jack's on Garfield Avenue from 11am to 5pm.
> 1964 The Tribute: The Beatles tribute band returns for a performance at the Bay Side Music Stage from 6pm to 11pm.
> Seniors' Pincochle Tournnament: Best play wins! No reservations necessary. Open to ages 50 and older from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Traverse City Senior Center. Door prizes and more.
> Over 21 Alumni Event: Were you once National Cherry Festival Royalty (Queen, Court, Prince or Princess)? Are you a past President or Board member? Join the festival in preserving the tradition and celebrating past in the beer tent from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm! Ages 21 and up only.
> Consumers Energy Heritage Parade: Returning after a several-year absence due to popular demand, the Heritage Parade honors the history of the community and the cherry industry. The parade goes from 7pm to 9pm and begins at the corner of Front and Railroad, continuing down Front to Union Street and then turning north on Union to Thirteenth Street. The parade ends at Thirlby Field on Thirteenth Street.
