Next Phase of Monroe Reconstruction Starts Monday

By Beth Milligan | June 6, 2026

The City of Traverse City will start Phase 2 of its Monroe Street reconstruction project Monday. Monroe will be closed from Randolph Street to Wayne Street during this phase, with work expected to be completed by August 24.

The intersections of Monroe/Wayne and Monroe/Randolph will have intermittent construction during this timeline. Drivers should expect temporary lane shifts, lane closures, and street segment closures while work is being performed.

Phase 1 of the project between Front and Bay streets is anticipated to be substantially completed in early July. Phase 3 of the project between Randolph and Front is anticipated to begin later this summer, with a completion date of October 30. Work will include sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer, curb and gutter, asphalt pavement, sidewalks, and related improvements.
